Reese Hitch
The Reese Hitch has set the standard for Fifth Wheel hitches as recognized by the RV industry since 1968.
Reese hitches have their roots in a company formed in 1952 by TJ Reese, who pioneered the technology that is used in today's modern towing systems. Today, Reese Products is a company employing over 800 people, including engineers and other professionals. The manufacturing plant uses computer-aided design and testing equipment - to include fatigue testing, finite element analysis and other leading-edge technologies.
By 1968, Reese hitches were recognized by the RV industry as the premier hitch design and manufacturing company, so they asked Reese to develop trailer towing tests and to gather data related to towing loads. This study became the industry-standard V5 and SAEJ684.
A partial list of notable "firsts" developed and made by Reese includes:
The aluminum trailer stabilizer jack, custom designed bolt on receiver style trailer hitches, adjustable trunnion style weight distributing systems, dual cam sway controls, removable fifth wheel hitches, sliding fifth wheel hitches, class IV trailer hitches and "install it yourself" multi fit trailer hitches.
How To Select The Proper Hitch
1. Determine the towing capacity of your vehicle (by checking the vehicle's owner's manual.) 2. Determine the gross trailer weight (from the trailer's owner's manual & the weight you will have in the trailer). 3. Select the corresponding hitch from any of the tables online (just search "trailer towing classes").
